The role we play

A mask I wear, a role I play, A facade that I must display. A game I’ve learned, a part I take, A performance that I must make.

A script I follow, a line I say, A truth that I must keep at bay. A secret I keep, a lie I tell, A part that I must play so well.

But inside I ache, I feel the weight, Of all the things I cannot state. A burden I bear, a toll I pay, For all the roles I must portray.

Still I keep going, I must survive, For I cannot let my true self dive. And maybe someday, I’ll be set free, From this act that consumes me.
